Apple of My Eye

So Mother Nature is a little slow on the uptake AGAIN this year. While we should be enjoying brisk sunny days and cool nights as Fall moves in, Minneapolis is still enjoying some nice summer-like weather. Which means it was 80+ degrees last week when Libby and I met up with Holly and Channing at our favorite apple orchard for some Fall fun.

We stumbled upon Minnetonka Orchards this first year we lived in Minneapolis and decided to head back this year, bringing along "my fend Channin" to share in the fun. They have a little of everything...lots of apple trees, barn animals, a corn maze, and more. And it's very picturesque.

We spent a good amount of time wandering around the orchard, playing on the wooden train and playground, visiting the animals at the barn, wandering in corn stalks twice as tall as the kidlets. All while enjoying some a-mazing apple donuts.

It was a good day.

Good for sneaking kisses...

...and playing peek-a-boo...

...and being the Queen of the hay pile...

...and relaxing on pumpkins.

Not to mention, it was good for chasing around goats...

...and grabbing a quick family picture...

...and being a little goofy...

...and taking a BIG bite out of an apple you just picked.

And by the end of the day, we were expert apple pickers. We managed to fill up our 'peck' bag (Tidbit: a peck is a dry measure of 8 quarts; also the fourth part of a bushel.) with hand-picked Haralson apples. It probably wouldn't have taken us as long as it did, but all the good apples were high up and a fair number of the ones we could reach had been feasted on by birds. But between the four of us, we managed to fill that bag...and have a couple for snacks.

Now we just have to decide what we're going to do with the half a peck of apples we brought home. I'm leaning toward Caramel Apple Cake, but I found these Apple Pies on Pinterest and I am sorely tempted to make them. And there's always the possibility of applesauce or apple crisp. Oooh...or maybe some of our own apple donuts. Dee-licious, as Libby would say.

Guess I better get going so Libby and I can decide what we're going to make.

In the meantime, kudos to anyone who can tell me what Libby is thinking in this picture...

love always, Kendra
