Fastasy vs. Reality

At four, Libby's schedule keeps us pretty busy. Some people would probably even she has too many activities on her plate, but she loves it all, so I'm more than willing to provide her with the opportunities. There is the near-requisite Tuesday/Thursday preschool. Wednesday night ballet and tap class, which come May will be twice a week in preparation for a recital on "the BIG stage." Thursday afternoon is gymnastics with Samir. And just last week we added Ice Skating for Beginners on Mondays.

Oh that girl has been waiting patiently the last few weeks for ice skating class to start. I was instructed during a errand run one week that I needed to find and buy a new "skating outfit" for her. And as the day grew closer, Libby was quick to tell you exactly what ice skating class was going to be like.

She was going to do plie's and flips on the ice.
Spin in circles.
Skate really, really fast.

It wasn't just ice skating...it was ice dancing.

And it was going to be So.Much.Fun.

Pretty sure she thought she was going to look like this:
Fastasy

Yeah, that didn't really happen.

A majority of the half hour class was spent like this:
Reality

But it was still pretty darn cute. She fell on that ice like a pro and didn't cry once, not until the very end. Thank goodness for snow pant padding and a helmet! She was persistent in her efforts. For every time she fell, she tried her best to stand up on those two thin blades atop the slippery ice. And wouldn't you know it...by the end of the class that girl was able to stand up all by herself!

Now to learn how to "skate" across the ice. Libby is a little disappointed in the shuffle method of moving. She would much prefer to glide, because it's faster.

I have to admit, I kind of like how cute she looks with the shuffle  method though.

It's just gonna take some practice. (And here's hoping the new hard plastic molded PINK ice skates Grammy and Poppy bought her help ease the balancing issue.) I'm sure it won't be long before she is ready for the Olympics.

If anybody feels like coming out the arena some Monday night, let me know. It's adorable cute and fun entertainment!

love always,
Kendra
