Roughly an hour ago, the door bell rang. It was the Fed-Ex man and he was leaving a box on our doorstep.
Libby, nosy as always, was quite intent on discovering what treasures were hidden inside that plain brown box. It seems she had forgotten a critical piece of information regarding the return of one of her most beloved of dolls.
You see {back up with me a few weeks here} we sat down to breakfast one day, myself, Libby, and Bitty Baby and we realized that there was something wrong with Bitty. Sitting up, she looked like this:
It wasn't pretty. I snapped this picture with my iPhone and sent it off STAT to Grammy, 'cuz she works in an office with a bunch of neuro docs and I wanted her opinion. Did Bitty need an opthamologist or a neurologist? A reply came quickly...most likely a neurologist, but not until she'd had an MRI. A diagnosis of ptosis (med speak for drooping or falling of the upper or lower eyelid) and midline deviation of the eye (NOT a good thing) came with it. Her office neurologist offered to consult. The two together could only mean one thing: Bitty had a brain tumor.
A week later and we (with Grammy and Poppy) were sitting down with Bitty...at the American Girl Bistro. Figured we needed sustenance before taking her to their Triage Center for a definitive diagnosis. It was a fun little meal...Libby LOVED that Bitty got her own chair at the table.
She did not however love what the triage center had to say. It was a relief...no brain tumor. But Bitty did need an eye replacement, which meant only one thing. She needed to be shipped off to the American Girl Doll Hospital. Truly, Libby was okay with the whole process...the consultation, dressing Bitty in her hospital gown, packing her up to go. But she got teary eyed when she realized that she and Bitty were going to be separated. Bitty needed to go away for her operation and would return home in 2-3 weeks.
So here we are, a week and a half later, and that box showed up at our door. Libby intently 'read' the name on the mailing label. "L-I-B-B-Y...Mama, that spells Libby. Is it for me?!"
Indeed it is baby girl, indeed it is. It didn't take her long once the box was open to figure out what was waiting inside.
And guess what...she was right.
Bitty Baby is back from the Doll Hospital! And, might I add, resplendent as ever in her hospital gown and matching hat. With two eyes that open and close as they should! Not to mention a card she got from her other dolly friends while she was gone and a Certificate of Good Health with a prescription. Dr. Gail recommends 'plenty of rest for one week, plus an extra-strength dose of TLC to be administered at least twice daily.' (I'm not making that up folks!) And her mama, well, her mama is one happy little girl.
It is like Christmas morning around here now, with Bitty Baby home. I left them downstairs watching a movie, changing diapers, drinking bottles, and playing with the dollhouse and Bitty's Welcome Home present (an American Girl kitty named Praline) to come update everyone on the reunion. Indeed, Bitty Baby's mama is one happy little girl.
Which makes this mama a happy mama.
love always, Kendra
