Bike & Build

Just a quick little post with a bit of a request. Even knowing that I have like 5 people who read this blog on a semi-regular basis, I figured it couldn't hurt to get this out to people any way I could.

My youngest of baby brothers, a Mr. Alec Bruns, is partaking in a grand humanitarian adventure this summer. After much deliberation, a few strong opinions, and the cards falling into place better than anyone could have planned, Alec has decided to join Bike & Build for the summer of 2012.

The website explains it well, but a brief synopsis for you. Bike & Build is a charitable organization that devotes it's energies to raising money and awareness toward the affordable housing crisis in America. Well that, and to biking insane distances. And we're talking bicycle bike, NOT motorcycle bike.

This summer, Bike & Build is 'hosting' eight different cross-country biking trips. My brother Alec is a member of this year's Central US route, and as such will spend his summer riding his bike from Virginia Beach, Virginia to Canon Beach, Oregon (3800 miles) with 31 other people. Their trip will be devoted to informing the communities they pass through about the affordable housing issue and helping them find ways to alleviate the problem as well as actually helping build affordable homes for families in need. I've taken a look at their schedule and if you ask me, it's pretty crazy. Some days, they will bike up to 106 miles. But it's pretty amazing.

Right now, Alec is raising money for the Bike & Build Charity, money that will be used to fund young-adult driven affordable housing projects. All donations are tax-deductible (and everyone should hopefully be getting last year's tax return soon!) and greatly appreciated by Alec and everyone at Bike & Build. So, if you are at all interested, please please check out Bike & Build's website at www.bikeandbuild.org, or better yet, check out Alec's Bike & Build bio at www.bikeandbuild.org/rider/5610. There is a link to donate/sponsor for Alec specifically. Hopefully once the trip starts, I can link up to the Central US blog and we can follow along on the Bike & Build trip together, to see our donations in action!

love always, Kendra
